Skin aging problems are a concern for everyone. Wrinkles and fine lines take away from the youthfulness of the face. The problems of premature aging are on the rise today more than ever due to the changes in our lifestyle and our environment. Pollution and heat are constantly draining youth from our skin at an alarming rate.

But where there are problems there are solutions too. There are a number of different methods that have been developed to help restore and retain the skin’s youthfulness. We will be discussing in this article one such product that will help you put an end to all those aging woes. That product is called Restylane.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a range of injectable fillers that are used to correct facial wrinkles and folds. It is formulated from non-animal sourced Hyaluronic Acid. But first, you might want to know what Hyaluronic Acid is really.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies which nourishes the elastin and collagen in our skin. Elastin and collagen provide elasticity and firmness to the skin, making it look youthful. As the production of hyaluronic acid in the body decreases with age, our skin begins to sag, resulting in hollow, sunken cheeks.

The treatment introduces hyaluronic acid back into the facial tissue to provide volume underneath the skin. The hyaluronic acid clings to the skin and the water in the acid provides volume. The acid also attracts more water to preserve the recently-added volume.

It is most commonly used to reduce wrinkles and laugh lines. It can also be used for lip enhancements, filling up facial hollows around the eyes or cheeks, and contouring of the chin, nose and lips.

What to Expect During The Restylane Treatment

The procedure is very easy and quick. It requires no surgery and can be done on the same day as the consultation with the doctor. It is usually carried out under the effect of local anesthesia.

The doctor first identifies the areas of the face that require treatment and will choose one or more injection sites to apply the treatment. The injection sites are then cleaned and disinfected. Restylane is injected into these sites with an ultrafine needle.

The amount of Restylane required for each area may be different and will be decided by the doctor before administering the product. The product is not approved for use by anyone below the age of 21 years.

Recovery and Healing

Since the procedure is non-invasive, the patient can go home immediately after the treatment. There might be a little redness, swelling or bruising that usually goes away within a few days.

Exposure to the sun must be limited to promote faster healing. The patient can go back to normal life immediately after, although it is suggested to take a day off if several injections were administered.

The full results of the treatment are usually seen after a week, but there are immediate noticeable changes to the skin too. Restylane is not a permanent filler, and more rounds of treatments may be needed at some point in the future to retain the results for a longer amount of time.
